MORE CHICAGO AUTO SHOW @ INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com Ford is rolling out its 2010 Transit Connect at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. The compact commercial van has been part of its European lineup and is slated for a summer rollout in the United States, priced at $21475, including destination. Details include an upgraded 2.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine that delivers an estimated 136 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 128 pound-feet of torque at 4750 rpm, mated to a four-speed automatic overdrive transaxle. Although official EPA numbers are not yet in, Ford said the Transit Connect is expected to return 20 mpg in city driving and 24 mpg on the highway. Ford describes the Transit Connect as a workhorse that "drives like a car, works like a van and is engineered to be as tough as a truck." The interior was not completely overhauled compared to the previous European model, but the Transit Connect gets an updated grille and cabin. Standard features include air-conditioning, an AM/FM stereo with two speakers and a standard console with twin storage bins for such items as receipts, invoices and coins. The Transit Connect targets the Chevrolet HHR Panel as one of its chief competitors.
